“Timisoara has shaped my way of seeing life,” says Dominic Fritz, the candidate who won the local elections on September 27. He came to Romania 17 years ago and fell in love with this city. He has volunteered for countless humanitarian projects, is passionate about music, graduated in political science and now adds the position of mayor of Timisoara to his resume.
Dominic Fritz was born in Germany. He grew up in a small town with his 7 siblings. At the age of 16 he left home, after winning a scholarship offered by the German Parliament. He has a degree in political science and post-conflict studies, but also a degree in administrative science. For 10 years he headed the office of the former president of Germany, Horst Köhler, who congratulated him when he became the new mayor of Timisoara.

He came to Timișoara in 2003 as a volunteer at a Caritas Foundation center for underprivileged children. And since then he says he did not want to go to Germany. Timisoara’s cosmopolitan spirit and multiculturalism made Dominic Fritz feel at home even now, at 37 years old.
“A city where the Revolution began, this impressed me when I was young – but still today – and I kept coming back, here I founded an association, built many social and cultural projects in Timisoara,” he said. Fritz.
Among them, “Timișoara Gospel Project”, the association that he has led as president since 2012. Passionate about music, he performed concerts that raised donations for the city’s Palliative Care Center and delighted the audience with his talent.
Dominic Fritz militates for a revolution of the local administration, he wants the institutions to be friendly with the inhabitants of the cities, that they do not have queues and in no case bureaucracy.
“I think that the people of Timișoara have chosen the right vision for the future of Timișoara. I think it is a very strong signal, not only for Romania, but for the whole of Europe, and Timisoara reaffirmed that it is a European city. I think my candidacy speaks much of Timisoara’s multicultural tradition and has been reconnected with this important heritage. Timișoara was a European leader, a very innovative city and many people from Timisoara believe that they found themselves in my love story for Timisoara and in my vision of Timișoara Fritz said on Digi24.
He says the city needs a stadium, a ring road, a new municipal hospital and more attention to the city’s neighborhoods.
“Also, I think the people of Timisoara wanted a different style in administration and politics, a style close to the people, communicating differently. The energy and dynamics that we see in the private sector and in civil society and the cultural sector does not correspond to the structures and mentalities of the public administration. I believe that the purpose of my political generation is to bring this dynamic to the public administration as well, “he added.
“Timisoara is a city where diversity gives birth to innovation and will once again be one of the most innovative cities in Europe, both economically and culturally,” he added.
