The new mayor of Bucharest is Nicușor Dan, a mathematician who fought for years with the mayor’s office of the capital in the courts.

Now he has won the election by almost 43% and has to fix the worst problems he has complained about over time.

One of them is traffic in the capital, which according to the new mayor will be reduced by 40 percent at the end of his term, and for this he will apply mathematical calculation formulas. ȘtirileProTv reporters Vitalie Cojocari and Mihai Bucșă drove through busy Bucharest with the new mayor at the wheel and kept their promises.

Mathematician Nicusor Dan turns 50 in December. He was born in Făgăraş and moved to Bucharest at the age of 20. Now he lives in Sector 5 of Bucharest, in a flat of an old house, for which he pays 550 euros in rent.

His wife’s name is Mirabela and his 4-year-old daughter was called Aheea. A name invented by them, which resembles the name of the ancient Greeks. When she learned that her father would run a town hall, her little girl was unhappy.

Mirabela and Nicusor Dan met 10 years ago and together with other volunteers founded the Association for the Salvation of Bucharest. Mirabela kept the accounts, Nicusor represented the Association in court. She became his wife after watching him dance.

They spent many vacations protesting in front of the City Hall, the Ministry of Culture or in Vama Veche. In 2012, Nicusor Dan changed his hairstyle and entered politics. The battle for Bucharest has begun. In the first elections he ranked third, in 2016 he was second and in 2020 he won. He tells us that he did not read all the mathematics treatises he collected in the library, but he promises to apply mathematics to solve some problems in Bucharest.

Nicușor Dan, Mayor-elect of the Capital: “Traffic lights can be solved with mathematics.”

To prove it, reporttirileProTv reporters went to the headquarters of the Save Bucharest Association. Along the way, they have made several promises that they want to put into practice at the end of their term.

Nicușor Dan: “There must be a traffic light with a camera that allows drivers to turn left. Traffic will be reduced by 40%. We will remove the cars from the first lane, but first we will give the drivers a month of accommodation ”.

If after a month the cars are still parked in the selected areas, the owners will be fined. The future mayor is exasperated by the traffic jams. He says that serious builders no longer come to Bucharest and that is why the works take too long. An example, the repair of the Dâmboviţa box in Splaiul Independenţei.

Nicusor Dan: “It is inadmissible to be even a year and a half.”

He hopes to convince the people of Bucharest to give up their personal cars in favor of public transport. For this, the project prepares the surface light rail. It would be the CFR line, practically abandoned, that surrounds Bucharest like a ring. It promises to launch tenders that will attract more builders of buses, trolley buses and trams, so that public transport arrives on time, clean and free.

At the headquarters of the Save Bucharest Association, which he directs, the walls of his office are filled with the files of the processes that he has presented one by one before the district mayors and the general mayor’s office. Even the institution that will soon lead.

Nicusor Dan: “There are about 50 cases, I will go to the judge to annul the decisions of the mayor’s office.”

He is willing to suppress the municipal companies, except Termoenergetica, which took over RADET’s activity. He does not yet know if the gigacalorie in Bucharest will become more expensive, but he promises that the losses in the network will not be borne by the inhabitants of the capital.

Nicusor Dan: “It will be a problem, this winter will be hard, but next winter it won’t be so hard.”

The public transportation grant will not be canceled yet, but will be reviewed by the mayor’s new team. Nicusor Dan is not yet ready to apply for the meter to the Ministry of Transport.

The project that the people of Bucharest want to be remembered for after four years in office is the release of traffic.
