PSD Baron Marian Oprișan loses the post of Vrancea County Council Chairman after 20 years. The one who managed to defeat him in Sunday’s local elections is the liberal senator Cătălin Toma, 43.
Who is Cătălin Toma?
Cătălin Dumitru Toma is 43 years old and has been a NLP senator since 2016. He is secretary of the European Affairs Commission and a member of the Public Administration and Territorial Organization Commission.
For eight years (06.25.2008-22.11.2016), he was mayor of the Jariștea commune, according to his CV on the Senate website.
Cătălin Toma has been a member of NLP for 10 years, and since 2016 he has been the President of NLP Vrancea.
In 1999 he graduated from the Faculty of Sociology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the University of Bucharest, then he was a professor for two years and deputy director of the “Duiliu Zamfirescu” Theoretical Higher School in Odobești. In 2005 he took postgraduate courses in France and in 2009 he graduated in philology at the Faculty of Romanian Language and Literature at the “Spiru Haret” University in Bucharest.
The NLP senator, Cătălin Toma, announced this Monday morning that after the centralization of 95% of the votes cast, he can declare that he won the presidency of the Provincial Council, held in recent decades by the social democrat Marian Oprişan: “After the centralization of 95% of the votes cast, I can say that with your help I managed to win the presidency of the Vrancea City Council. Most of the remaining sections are from the city, where the folks at Focsani and the NLP team led by Ion Ştefan were fantastic, giving me their confidence and a comfortable score. Thanks to those who believed in this and participated in the vote. Today, at 2 pm, I will return with a press conference in which I will present the final results ”.
The representatives of the PSD affirm that in Vrancea, in the elections for the CJ, there are about 10,000 invalid votes and they have already asked for their recount.
