The municipal elections of September 27 threw surprising results in the Capital, where the PSD was in charge of a single sector. In the main electoral battle in Bucharest, Gabriela Firea lost the general mayoralty, won by Nicuşor Dan.
The alliance between PNL and USR-PLUS seems to be the big winner in the Capital, after the results of the exit polls and the first results of the local elections, announced this Monday morning.
Results of the 2020 local elections – Bucharest General City Council
UPDATE 10:30 After the centralization of 94.17% of the votes, Nicuşor Dan has a score of 42.74% (270,420 votes), Gabriela Firea – 37.97% (240,243 votes), Traian Băsescu – 11% (69,537 votes).
UPDATE 08:00 – Nicușor Dan, PNL-USR PLUS candidate for the Capital Mayor’s Office, obtained 41.82% of the votes, while his opponent of the PSD, the current mayor Gabriela Firea, has a score of 37.4%, indicates provisional data after counting more than 90% of the votes.
So far, 605,772 votes have been counted, representing 90.18% of the 671,743 registered on Sunday, according to News.ro.
Partial results of the elections to the City Council of the capital:
1. Nicuşor Dan – 41.82% of the votes
2. Gabriela Firea – 37.4%
3. Traian Băsescu: 10.81%.
Turnout in Bucharest at the close of the polls was 36.93%, higher than in previous local elections, when it was 33.09%.

Cristian Popescu Piedone is the winner of the Mayor’s Office of Sector 5, after counting 94% of the votes, according to centralized interim results of the Central Electoral Office.
After counting 89,103 votes, representing 94% of the total, under the conditions of a participation of 94,799 voters, representing 38.35%, the former mayor of Sector 4 Cristian Popescu Piedone has the best score in the race for the City Council of Sector 5, respectively 27.25%.
It is followed by the PNL-USR PLUS candidate Cristian Băcanu, with 24.84%.
The current mayor of the sector, the social democrat Daniel Florea, occupies the third position, with 24.84% of the votes.
