Cristian Popescu Piedone is the new mayor of sector 5, after the local elections on Sunday. Cristian Băcanu, the NLP candidate supported by USR-PLUS, admitted defeat on Monday morning.

Thus, according to the provisional results centralized by the Central Electoral Table, Cristian Popescu Piedone is the winner of the Sector 5 City Council, after counting 94% of the votes.
The former mayor of Sector 4 obtained 27.25% of the votes, while Cristian Băcanu (PNL-USR-PLUS) obtained 24.84% of the voters.
PSD candidate, current mayor Daniel Florea obtained 24.84% of the votes.
On December 16, 2019, Cristian Popescu-Piedone was sentenced to 8 years and 6 months in prison with execution for committing the crime of abuse of office in connection with the issuance of operating permits for the Colectiv club. The appeal trial began this month.
