Târgu Mureș is one of the large cities in Romania that, after the elections of September 27, 2020, changed its mayor, after being led by Dorin Florea for 20 years. The new mayor would be Soos Zoltan, an independent candidate supported by the UDMR.

Dorin Florea decided not to run for the Târgu Mureș City Council this year and tried his luck as president of the Mureș County Council, but this election was also won by UDMR.

The independent candidate for the Târgu Mureş City Council, Soos Zoltan, obtained, according to the parallel count, more than 25,500 votes out of 57,417 votes reported by the polling stations, reports Agerpres. He declared Sunday night that the people of Târgumireş had regained their city in the fight against corruption and clans, and with the vote of confidence that he cast “the paradigm of the ethnic vote was overcome.”

“I will be wrong, but I can say with certainty that I will represent the interests of all citizens equally, regardless of their ethnic origin.” We took back our city, not we Hungarians, but we, all the people of Târgumireş, in the fight against corruption and clans. I win! It is a historic victory. We managed to overcome the paradigm of the ethnic vote, with this day we close a chapter of 20 years in the life of the city. This period left deep wounds, but we saw that the vital organs were not affected. The people of Târgumureş voted with their hearts and minds, change is vital for our city. I win! Târgu Mureş, did you hear? The change has won! ”Soos Zoltan said.

“We have overcome historical prejudices and healed the wounds of the past. Today, Târgu Mureş left fear behind and showed that he is no longer afraid of instigation and division, “he added Like Zoltan, referring to the events of March 1990.

He said he did not promise a new city, but a different perspective. “We will not be able to recover everything at once, we have to recover 20 lost years. I don’t promise you miracles, just work, work and work. What we have gained now is not a function, but a responsibility to solve the problems of the city. Click on interests and abuses, thanks, but I’m not interested. Instead, I accept any constructive advice, “said Soos Zoltan.

Soos Zoltan is an archeology specialist, 44 years old and has six children.

According to the parallel count, the second place in the race for mayor of the city was Claudiu Maior, candidate Pro Romania, with more than 7,780 votes, and in third place is Theodora Benedek, candidate of the PNL, with more than 6,000 votes.

For the Târgu Mureş City Council, 13 people ran for these elections.

PNL lost four mayors in Mureș

UDMR Mureş President Peter Ferenc announced that following Sunday’s elections, the Union won 40 mayors in the county, including those of the municipalities of Târgu Mureş and Reghin.

“Importantly, the UDMR not only managed to maintain its position as mayor of the county, but it even managed to strengthen its leadership position in this county. At this time we have 40 mayors (out of 102 territorial administrative units, no) who won, of which 38 started as candidates of the UDMR and two independents who were supported by the UDMR. Here I would say that I won Târgu Mureş, I won Reghin and I won Breaza, places where I have not had a mayor for a long time. Also, the only place that we would have liked, but could not recover, is Ghindari, where the mayor remained in office, ”said Peter Ferenc.

According to the parallel count of the NLP, the Liberals won 26 mayoralties, losing four of them compared to 2016, writes Agerpres.
