The mayor of Ciugud, Gheorghe Damian, wins the sixth term with more than 88 percent of the votes

The mayor of the Ciugud commune, Gheorghe Damian, obtained in the local elections of 2020 the sixth consecutive term of mayor, with 88.2% of the votes, more than what he obtained four years ago, when he had 85% of the votes, transmits Agerpres.

Excluded from the Social Democratic Party in 2017, the mayor of the country’s richest commune, Gheorghe Damian, ran for the current elections as an independent. A representative of the Popular Movement Party also appeared in these elections.

According to the mayor’s spokesman, Dan Lungu, Gheorghe Damian was voted by 88.2% of those present at the polls on Sunday. Participation in Ciugud was 68.5%, well above the county average: 50.12%.

Gheorghe Damian has led the City Council of Ciugud since 2000.

The Ciugud commune is an active promoter of the modernization of the local public administration, launching in 2019 the concept of “Smart Village” as a solution for the digitization of public services and the development of the Romanian village. Ciugud is also known because it is the Romanian commune that attracted the most European funds, respectively, more than 27 million euros.
