In the 2016 elections, Gabriela Firea won the City Council of the capital with 246,553 votes (42.97%), more than 70,000 votes from Nicușor Dan, then they voted for 175,119 residents of Bucharest (30.52%). The election was held in a single round, with a 33.23% turnout.

Nicușor Dan is running for the third consecutive time for the office of Mayor General of the Capital. In 2012, as an independent, he obtained 8% of the votes.

From a historical point of view, no full-time mayor lost the elections in Bucharest when he ran for a second term. In 2020, Gabriela Firea, the current mayor of the Capital, is running for a new term.

Who conducts exit polls in the 2020 local elections

CURS will carry out studies in Bucharest, Cluj, Timisoara, Iasi, Brasov, Craiova, Baia Mare, Oradea, Pitesti, Constanta, Ploiesti, Focsani, Deva, Alba Iulia and Arad.

Avangarde will operate in Bucharest, Craiova, Constanta, Cluj, Iasi and Baia Mare.

BCS will carry out studies in Drobeta-Turnu Severin, Râmnicu Sărat and in the city of Eforie.

How to do the opinion poll

Electoral operators have access, through accreditation, to the building where the voting station is located and within a radius of 500 meters outside it, but not within the voting station. They are not allowed to interfere in any way in the process of organizing and conducting elections and they have an obligation not to disturb the peace and public order.

They will be present throughout the day in the polling stations of the country, from 7:00 a.m., the opening time of the polls, until 9:00 p.m., when the polls close, and they will interview voters after leaving the polls. Poll operators will ask you a series of questions about voting in local elections.

The conversation with the operators has a maximum duration of one minute and all the information provided is confidential. Voters will not be asked for identity details or other personal information.
