Romanians should not be afraid to go to the polls in local elections on September 27, during the coronavirus pandemic, if they were not afraid of congestion on the coast, says journalist Cristian Tudor Popescu. He adds that the risk of contagion from voting is lower than at sea, in the supermarket or at work.
“I wonder if it will scare those who have been on vacation at sea this summer, not only in Romania, but also elsewhere. But in Romania, we have all seen what was there and the consequences are now visible, at this rate of infection of 1,500, 1,600, 1,700 per day. Simple logic tells us that there can be no worse at the polling station than on the beach by the sea, “said Cristian Tudor Popescu of Digi24.
There will probably be incidents, it is impossible not to have some that do not follow the rules at some point, but in general, it cannot be compared. Only 5 people will enter the room, if someone has a temperature, if they have symptoms, they will take them on a separate path, to a separate cabin, which will be disinfected after that, the distance between people will be maintained.
Of course, there is a possibility that you will be infected anywhere in the world at this time. But obviously he is much smaller at the polling station than at the supermarket, at work; these people go to work, right? I don’t think there is a greater probability of contagion at the electoral college than at work, where you go and follow some rules, “he added.
The journalist says that some people may be scared if there are queues at polling stations, but that disorganized queues are unlikely to appear for the September 27 vote.
“I don’t think this will happen. I don’t think people will stand up to vote. There are forces of order there, the situation is known. Those who do not pretend to respect these rules will not come to the polls, and those who do know what awaits them. and, in my opinion, we are not going to have such important incidents, ”said Cristian Tudor Popescu.
“The outcome of these elections will be decided by the 2019 wave of voters from the European Parliament and the presidential elections will come to shore in 2020. That’s it. The equation is simple. Of course, if they want to reason, people can realize that their vote, they can think: if I was then and I am not going to the polls now, I was in vain in 2019, “added Cristian Tudor Popescu.
