The situation of the coronavirus epidemic will be “increasingly complex” in Romania, says DSU chief Raed Arafat. It refers to the arrival of winter, with low temperatures, seasonal flu, and the Christmas and New Year holidays. This, given the highest number of COVID-19 cases in Romania.

Arafat assures that this increase in the number of cases of contagion by the new coronavirus may be caused by the start of school and the return of people from vacation to work, but it also comes with good news: in the last two weeks “no there are serious problems. “

“We are waiting to see the first week of October, it is true that we are moving towards an increasingly complex situation, winter is approaching, seasonal flu, cold, you like the virus, a situation is approaching in which you may not let’s see decline, “Arafat told Digi24.

The DSU chief says wearing a mask has reduced the transmission rate of seasonal flu.

“It was to be expected, whoever has the mask is also protected from the seasonal flu virus. But that does not mean that we do not get vaccinated. The Ministry of Health has understood that it has twice the doses than last year, they are already available, the Vaccination against the flu virus is very necessary during this period, because it reduces the risk, especially for vulnerable people. And instead of waking up with flu and SARS COV2 or waking up with a very strong flu, the solution that helps during this period it’s the flu vaccination, ”said Arafat.

“Wearing a mask and distancing yourself also helps to limit the flu, but there comes a time when we have to be very disciplined: you have a cold, you don’t feel well, you talk to your family doctor, you don’t go to work, you don’t expose others. That is the most important thing, “he added.

Another aspect to keep in mind is that of winter break, when people gather, socialize, go on vacation, or participate in religious services.

“It is very difficult to say now. Because now they are the rules that we know very well. Let’s see how the situation evolves. But look around us, all the countries are taking serious measures, it is not a joke. Even though there is pressure from the population, there are protests, however, the responsible factors make serious decisions. That depends on the epidemiological situation, it is difficult to say now what it will be like in December, what the situation will be. I think the decisions should be discussed in November: what are the measures Do not forget, it is the appearance of the churches at Christmas and then we also have the restaurants that organize New Year’s Eve, “said Arafat.

He adds that the end of the year parties this year may not be the same as in previous years.

“The rules should be discussed based on the epidemiological situation. Any decision is in the interest of public health, the thinking of the authorities is in the general public interest, even if some or others are upset, the public interest of the majority, not the individual interest, ”he said.
