Millions of Romanians are happy. Central apartments for everyone! What are the conditions

The latest data shows that Bucharest’s district heating system is in urgent need of investment, given that more than three-quarters of RADET pipes are over 40 years old and are at risk of breaking every winter.

Against this background, Călin Popescu Tăriceanu, ALDE’s candidate for mayor of the Capital, stated that, according to his calculations, the repair and modernization of Bucharest’s district heating system could take 400 years, at the rate that it has worked so far . In this context, he proposes that the mayor’s office help Bucharest residents to buy power plants in blocks or apartments.

“Ms Firea is on a well-trodden path, namely the repair and modernization of the district heating system in Bucharest, which, according to our calculations, will last – at the rate that it has worked so far – another 400 years.” It is not a joke! This is demonstrated by mathematical calculations.

Of course it could be done in 20 years, but by the end of 2050, so in 30 years, because it is a member of the EU, Romania will no longer be able to use fossil fuels. So all the money we are investing today in the district heating system to repair and modernize the 1,000 kilometers of network and 3,000 kilometers of distribution pipes is being lost.

I am not referring to the fact that the district heating system today, according to the RADET statement, loses 2.2 million tons of hot water per hour, which is huge. Therefore, the estimated costs for modernizing the district heating network and thermal power plants exceed 3 billion euros, money that is being wasted. And my proposal differs diametrically: I propose to install thermal power plants for flats or blocks of flats that will be subsidized by the mayor’s office ”, declared Tariceanu on Antena 3.

More than 1.2 million inhabitants of the Capital are connected to the public district heating system, 565,000 apartments and more than 5,000 public institutions and economic agents.
