An asteroid will pass a very short distance from Earth on Thursday, getting closer to our planet than the Moon, or even television or weather satellites, writes Live Science.

The asteroid, known as SW 2020, is not expected to collide with Earth, according to the Center for the Study of Near-Earth Objects (CNEOS) at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, but it will pass very close, 27,000 kilometres. distance from the planet.

For example, the Moon is 384,000 kilometers from Earth, and the weather and television satellites are orbiting 35,888 kilometers away.

Scientists have not specified the exact dimensions of this asteroid, but estimate that it would be between 4.4 and 9.9 meters long, according to CNEOS.

Asteroid 2020 SW was discovered last week, on September 18, by the Mount Lemmon Survey in Arizona. The asteroid is moving through space at a speed of 27/720 km / h, or 7.7 km / s, and will not be visible to the naked eye.
