Until 2019, Chinese military planes and ships have been careful not to cross this middle line. But now this is no longer the case, those incidents are increasing. For example, on September 10, the Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the incursion of the Chinese Su-30 and J-10 fighter jets, as well as that of a Y-8 anti-submarine fighter jet in the Identification Zone of Taiwan Air Defense (ADIZ), during the PLA’s naval maneuvers.
“The Chinese government’s military maneuvers represent a serious challenge for Taiwan and a serious threat to peace and stability in the region. (…) Today the PLA chose to carry out exercises near Taiwan, tomorrow it could make similar threats near other countries” Taipei argued.
Beijing doesn’t care about Taiwan protests
And China’s tendency is even to outbid, judging by the combat means employed during the exercises organized during the US official’s visit to Taiwan.
On September 18, two H-6 bombers and 16 fighter jets (including 8 J-16, 4 J-10 and 4 J-11) thus crossed the middle line. The next day, except for the presence of a Y-8, an almost identical device was deployed under the same conditions.
And the Global Times, which follows the line dictated by the Communist Party of China, said in black and white, citing military analysts, that the recent maneuvers by the Chinese army “are not a warning but a replay to take control of Taiwan.” .
Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen has again denounced Chinese military activities in Taiwan’s neighborhood.
“I do not think it contributes to China’s international reputation. Furthermore, they warn the Taiwanese people even more because we understand even better the true nature of the Chinese communist regime,” he said on September 20.
“In addition, other countries in the region have a better understanding of the threat posed by China,” he added.
