The leu-euro exchange rate would depreciate immediately if the budget rectification law adopted by Parliament with the modification of the pension increase by 40% is approved, says Finance Minister Florin Cîţu.
“The depreciation of the national currency began when (PSD, no.) Announced the motion of censure and announced that they want to return to the budget rectification. There is this risk: when this law is passed, the exchange rate would depreciate immediately and there would be this risk for Romania of having an exchange rate depreciation, which also means inflation. Then he would ask Ciolacu and his gang to assume the depreciation of the national currency. If the exchange rate exceeds 5 lei, I say that they should come and resign, because they are directly responsible for what happens in the next period. We will not allow such a thing and we will take all the measures to avoid arriving ”, said the minister to Realitatea Plus, quoted by Agerpres.
The Plenary of Parliament adopted, on Tuesday, the budgetary rectification for 2020, with the PSD amendment regarding the increase of the pension point by 40%.
There were 242 votes in favor, 147 against, and 11 abstentions.
The parliamentarians decided, at the proposal of the PSD, to repeal the article according to which the pension point is increased by 14%, leaving the law of the public pension system in force, which provides for its increase by 40%.
The PNL has announced that it will challenge the law in the Constitutional Court.
