The army will mobilize in Madrid. The governor of the region asked for help to manage the alarming evolution of the pandemic.

The request was made on the first day that the quarantine was reintroduced in several neighborhoods in the south of the Spanish capital. The measure affects 850,000 inhabitants, a fifth of the population of the Community of Madrid.

To keep the situation under control, the army will be sent to support law enforcement. Authorities are also considering establishing field hospitals three months after their closure.

Isabel Díaz Ayuso, governor of the Community of Madrid: “We have to help the local police with the reinforcements that the Spanish government has kindly given us so that we can implement the law.

We do not have the skills to limit movement in communities. We also need the help of the military for disinfection and sanitation operations, for example, but above all we need help to make sure that the measures we apply in these neighborhoods are correct ”.
