On Monday, President Klaus Iohannis tested the train that will connect the North Station and Otopeni Airport together with Transport Minister Lucian Bode and Prime Minister Ludovic Orban. The train will run once every 50 minutes, the journey will last 17 minutes and the set will go live in December.
The president declared that he was satisfied with the rate at which the works were completed and that such investments in transport infrastructure would change “the face of Romania”.
President’s statements:
“The economic recovery plan that we developed together with the Orban Government is beginning to show its practical side and emphasize the importance of rail development, today we are participating in a test on the only new rail line built since 1984.
We want to develop the International Airport, we want to expand it, but for that it is necessary to be able to arrive at the airport in very good and predictable conditions.
It is obvious that in this way and at this rate we will be able to modernize the infrastructure in Romania. It is no coincidence that I participated in the subway, on the road. The development of the transport infrastructure is the foundation on which the relaunch plan is built. Romania needs sustainable economic development and for that it needs transport infrastructure.
And to be able to do it, we have a great opportunity because we can use European money.
So far I have had European money, but there was little political will.
From 2016 to 2019 11% of this line was achieved, we can find out what was the political will and political power.
I congratulate everyone who facilitated this development. I am convinced that this will be the pace that will prevail in the coming years, a pace that will change the face of Romania, ”said Klaus Iohannis.
Transport Minister Lucian Bode declared a week ago that the Gara de Nod-Otopeni Airport railway line could be put into service on December 12, along with the new route of the trains. He believes that the distance between the North Station and the Airport will be covered in 15-17 minutes, starting on December 12.
