The French at Renault are already doing advanced tests with the future Dacia SUV, according to photos published by L’Argus magazine. The images reveal a “donkey”, that is, a vehicle covered with a different body than the one it will have in the production version. In this case, the French engineers chose the Renault Espace, a minivan that also became the last generation in The use of the body emphasizes several aspects.
First, we can get an idea of the dimensions of the future model, secondly, we understand that Renault does not shy away from showing the links with the minivan segment, but will focus on the specific body elements of SUVs.
The dimensions of the future Dacia SUV will be close to those of Lodgy, between 4.5 and 4.6 meters. In addition, it is now certain that this model will benefit from the new CMF-B platform, on which the new Sandero and Logan have been developed. This will give you both the possibility of new technologies and the possibility of introducing next-generation engines, E-Tech hybrids. It will also provide seven seats, making it an important option for families in need of a vehicle of this type.
What is still known about the new Dacia SUV is the place of production. It will be at the Renault plant in Morocco, where today Dokker, Lodgy, Logan and Sandero are manufactured. Last but not least, the confirmations show that with this new crossover, both Lodgy and Logan MCV will disappear. The biggest difference between the current and future generation will be the design, which will follow the SUV style, with increased ground clearance and specific crossover trims.
Dacia has already tested the 7-seater crossover segment, with the current Lodgy having a Stepway version for some time, with good sales in western markets and even in Romania. It costs 12,900 euros in our market, being more expensive than Duster. The model benefits from an elongated platform (2.81 meters) and has a specific length for the compact segment, 4.52 meters, which allows the placement of two small seats in the trunk.
The only one currently unknown for the future model is the name. Unofficial information has already confirmed that Lodgy’s name will be removed, but speculation regarding the Grand Duster name has yet to be confirmed.
The launch date of the new model could be fall 2021, entering European markets in 2022. Meanwhile, Dokker, the model with which Lodgy shared some of the components, will remain “true” to the old platform, with the one that felt great and what will give you a number of advantages as a commercial vehicle. It will benefit from a new generation this autumn, with a new design, and there is information that in some markets in Europe it will be sold under the name Renault Kangoo.
