Just days after the opening of the Drumul Taberei metro, another seemingly never-ending infrastructure project will never be open to traffic on Saturday.
This is the Ciurel Passage, in the west of the Capital, which aims to solve the congestion problem in the Military zone. The people of Bucharest had to wait over 13 years, and sadly only a small part of the project was completed. Someday the passage should lead to the road to Pitesti.
As of Saturday morning, starting at 7 in the morning, drivers will be able to circulate through the new Pasaje Ciurel. With a length of approximately one kilometer, the construction contains three bridges, crosses Dâmbovița and connects two extremely busy areas, Militari-Crângași and the center.
The bridge should lead to the Bucharest Ring Road and then to the Bucharest-Pitesti Highway, according to the project. It’s just that at this moment the main artery stops in a pile of rubble. On the other hand, for drivers who will one day come from the A1, signs have already been installed.
Sabin Chiricescu, opposition group Ciurel-A1: “How could someone from here drive to Constanța? I leave it to you to see the physical condition. Physically it is not possible to get there. As far as I know, a roundabout.”
Therefore, the Ciurel Node is only a first stage, which lasted more than 13 years, marked by scandals in the courts and losses of almost 10 million euros.
Another authorization was issued in 2014, but works were delayed again due to technical problems. After another 6 years and 240 million lei, the knot is finally ready.
Ionuț Ciurea, Pro Infrastructure: “We have only one end of the whole project. This investment, until we see the continuation, will benefit a very small number of Bucharest residents. This investment only makes sense in the context of the continuation to the belt and further on A1 “.
Marius Coajă, representative of the City Council of the capital: “We also know very well that it is only a first step for the fluidization of traffic in this area. We issue the order to start the works, the builder has 2 years to reach the second stage, up to the Capital bypass. We want to inaugurate the entire project up to the A1 highway in the next 4 years ”.
For this, the owners of 20 buildings on the route must first be compensated. A rebuilt and approved by the general council, because in all these years it has been built massively in the area and more than 200 buildings had to be demolished according to the initial project.
