Local elections will be held on Sunday, September 27.

However, schools, kindergartens and secondary schools in Romania will be closed from Friday, September 25 to Tuesday, September 29 (inclusive).

In Bucharest, classes will be suspended the day before, on Thursday, September 24.

“Taking into account the special situation in which the 2020 local elections take place, as well as the provisions of Law No. 55/2020 on the measures established to prevent and combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Municipal Committee of Emergency Situations of Bucharest approved the suspension of courses on 24.09.2020, 25.09.2020, 26.09.2020 respectively, 28.09. 2020, 29.09.2020. 2020, for the educational units of the Bucharest municipality that house the polling stations ”, is shown in a statement sent by the Bucharest Prefecture.

“Even if courses are physically closed and suspended, classes will continue online. Nationwide, all schools will be closed on Friday, Monday and Tuesday for elections to take place, said Mónica Anisie, according to Edupedu.ro,” which PRO TV News quotes.

Basically, schools enter, for a few days, the red stage, with online teaching.

On Monday, September 21, it will be decided whether the measure in the Capital will be applied throughout the country, that is, if schools will be closed everywhere for 4 days, not 3.

On Monday morning, a consultation will be held with the associations of communes, cities and municipalities and the Union of Provincial Councils with the Ministry of Education to determine if they will close on Thursday, depending on the towns and schools where the educational process takes place.

Also at Friday’s meeting, in which it decided to close schools in Bucharest for 4 days, during local elections, the Emergency Situations Committee changed the operating scenarios for several schools and kindergartens in the Capital.

Thus, the Traian Vuia secondary school for metrology in sector 4 and the 185 kindergarten in sector 5 were moved to the red stage.

The following schools will operate on the yellow stage:

• ILLO Kindergarten, Sector 4
• School Gym no. 197, Sector 6
• Adrian Păunescu High School, Sector 6
• School Gym no. 59, Sector 6

• Sf Andrei High School, Sector 6
