President Klaus Iohannis says that infrastructure works must be carried out at a faster pace, because they will help Romania’s economic recovery. The head of state participated in the inauguration of a new section of the Transilvania Highway, Iernut-Chețani, which has a length of 18 kilometers.
“It is obvious that the infrastructure in Romania is far behind. I do not want to detail why it was left behind. There are people who know that they really did not want to develop the infrastructure. The paradigm has changed, now it is wanted,” said Iohannis.
“I didn’t come here for the holidays and I didn’t come to finish anything. We have come to point out that we must work faster, we must meet deadlines, and we must move much faster with infrastructure work. This event is a middle ground, because we still have a lot, a lot of work in Romania, ”he added.
“We realize the importance of these jobs and that we have to change the pace, so that everything goes much faster. We need infrastructure. The European funds are ready, the work must be prepared. These large infrastructure projects will be the momentum with which the Romanian economy will recover significantly.
The development of infrastructure in Romania is not a political campaign wish, it is a basic necessity. We have the ambition to do the Transylvania Highway, the Vltava Highway and many works that we have planned and that we will do in a surprisingly short time, ”added Iohannis.
The works started in 2016 and the contract value is 437.6 million lei. After the opening of this lot, the Romanians will have a total of 873 kilometers of highway.
