The role of the Army in the street in controlling the pandemic. Professor Săndesc: It is more difficult, but it would be useful to intervene firmly

In a state of emergency, people stayed at home and the Army walked the streets.

Prof. Dr. Dorel Săndesc, Vice President of the Romanian Society of Anesthesia and Intensive Care, came to the Academy of Health today and spoke on this topic.

“The authorities now tend to take firm measures with more restraint for fear of electoral impact and to hold the population responsible for the principle why the rules are not followed. But they ignore the fact that their role, as authorities, is to ensure that the rules are followed. I don’t think we can say that the Romanian people are a people that are not capable of respecting the rules.

Let me give you a suggestive example: the anti-smoking law. Few of us have estimated that it will be so highly respected immediately after its enactment. This happened not because smokers understood, overnight, that it is not healthy to smoke, but because the authorities were vigilant to comply with the rules, they intervened quite firmly within the law. They closed bars, etc. and thus the rule was respected.

I think it is the only alternative we have. If in the emergency period the Army was taken to the streets, but the streets were deserted and the Army was walking like this, I think it could be useful now … but I don’t think the Army because it is constitutionally tougher … but it would be useful to intervene firm that the rules are respected as the only solution to control epidemic waves ”, said Professor Săndesc.
