More than 1,700 coronavirus infections have been reported in the last 24 hours in Romania, which is a new negative record for the evolution of the pandemic. However, the cause of the accelerated growth of diseases is not related to the reopening of schools, but to the vacation period, Ioan Ștefan, head of the Department of Infectious Diseases at the Central Military Hospital, told Digi24.
“I would not associate the increase in cases with the reopening of schools, but with the period of withdrawal that has ended,” said the doctor.
“It just came to our attention then.
We are concerned about the additional risks involved in starting school. School starts for everyone in society, we all take an exam, the whole community and we have to teach the children lessons about wearing masks, physical distance. We must do this with patience, tact and wisdom.
You can see that it was infinitely easier to close the schools than to reopen them ”, explained Ioan Ștefan.
The doctor said that a future anti-coronavirus vaccine could be administered in several boosters, since it is not expected that this vaccine will not ensure complete immunity with a single administration, as the passage through the disease does not generate antibodies in a significant percentage.
“However, they will give us a break to better manage hospitalized patients with severe forms.
The WHO estimates that October-November could be the second peak of the epidemic, but I believe that if we manage not to overcrowd the intensive care units we will be able to cope.
If we wear a mask and follow the other rules to prevent infection, if the flu vaccination is started, we will somehow control the phenomenon, ”said the doctor.
