After 9 years of promises and postponements, the Drumul Taberei metro has been carrying passengers for months. The first to get on the carriages were the head of state, the prime minister and the heads of Metrorex.
They also knew the jokes that were happening about bus 5 and apologized for the 6 year delay over the initial deadline. For the 7 kilometers of route built with difficulty, 19 ministers traveled to transport.
At 2:20 pm, the first passengers boarded the Drumul Taberei metro, heading for Valea Ialomiței. Among them, Cristian. He is 8 years old, almost the same as the project, and on Monday he made his first subscription.
The metro leaves from Eroilor 2 station, has 10 stops in total and runs for almost 7 km. The trains will run at 80 km per hour.
From Heroes to Novelists, where there is a crossing, the route is common. There it will be possible to change direction, either towards Valea Ialomiței or towards Râul Doamnei.
It is true that Highway 5 was inaugurated after 9 years of waiting. It lasted three times longer than it should have, either due to lack of funds or blocked tenders or technical problems.
Promises of a subway connecting the capital city center and Camp Road began in 2007, when Ludovic Orban was Minister of Transport. The actual works began in 2011, during the mandate of Anca Boagiu. From the first discussions on this project until now, there have been 19 line ministers and 11 directors from Metrorex. And, although it was inaugurated today, the road did not end, that is, in Pantelimon. Watch out, new promises are coming.
Lucian Bode, Minister of Transportation: “The M5 motorway will continue its development with another 6 stations in the Héroes, Universidad, Plaza Iancului section, with the metro network gaining another 5.4 km as a coverage area. The project is under tender” .
However, old trains will run on the new highway. There are 10 ensembles in the current Metrorex fleet that provide passenger transportation, because the new trains are still a paper plan.
