As of today, European funds of one billion euros are being put into play for Romanian entrepreneurs.

Small businesses, those that are self-employed, but also associations and doctors’ offices, can obtain non-reimbursable aid, which starts at 2,000 euros and reaches 200,000 euros.

The money is provided for both operating expenses and investments, especially in the case of companies in severely affected sectors.

Entrepreneurs interested in receiving non-refundable European money were able to open accounts on Tuesday on a dedicated platform of the Ministry of Economy.

The manager of a car service in Brașov was one of the first.

Andreea Benea, manager: “First of all, we want to make some investments in the hallway, some repairs, to buy some new equipment. It is very difficult for us at this time to be able to retain suppliers, pay them on time ”.

And for a garden and green space company, European money is hope.

Laura Dragomir, manager: “We are thinking of an investment in equipment, we would need about 200,000 euros ”.

Journalist: But do you know that you also have to contribute?
Manager: “Yes, I know, 15 percent. But we are ready to apply for these funds. It helps us to have a bigger advantage. “

For now, entrepreneurs can only create accounts on the platform dedicated to SME grants. Meanwhile, details and potential technical issues are resolved, so that only next week will stakeholders be able to submit the documents necessary to access the funds. The expectation is high, because, in total, there are funds of one billion euros.

If you have a small company, without employees or working on your own or you have a non-profit organization, you can get a subsidy of 2,000 euros. This money can be used to cover current expenses, debts, but also for equipment purchases. The funds reach 50,000 beneficiaries, authorities announced.

Florin Jianu, President of the Council of SMEs: “We need these micro-grants of 2,000 euros for those subsistence companies that do not have employees, which in reality meant the businessman affected by the pandemic ”.

Other funds, of up to 150,000 euros, are given to companies severely affected by the pandemic, which need money to operate. And here, the number of beneficiaries would be at most 65,000.

But the largest grants, up to 200,000 euros, can be obtained by companies that have investment plans. Applicants must meet the financing conditions, otherwise they run the risk of returning them.

Valentina Saygo, tax consultant: “The fact that it is some free money, easily obtained, is an illusion, we cannot spend anything, anyway, because we want to, there are some eligible expenses in these projects and they are quite restrictive.”

So far, more than 5,000 entrepreneurs have opened accounts on the platform of the Ministry of Economy. The money from Brussels could arrive before the end of the year.
