More than five million retirees in Romania. What is the minimum monthly pension?

According to data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), at the level of the second quarter of 2020, Romania registered an average of 5,132 million retirees, with a thousand more people than the last quarter.

The minimum monthly pension increased 0.9%, compared to the previous quarter, reaching the value of 1,463 lei.

The average number of retirees from state social security was 4,676 million people, 6,000 more than in the previous quarter.

The INS study also shows that the average state social security pension was 1,380 lei, and the ratio between the average net nominal social security pension for the age limit with full contribution period and the average net income was 51 0.0% compared to 50.8% in the previous quarter.

The lowest pensions in Romania are in Botosani

According to the cited source, social security pensioners have the majority share, 99.98%, of the total number of pensioners.

State social security pensioners represent 91.1% of all social security pensioners.

By pension category, the number of old-age pensioners was predominant, 78.2%, among social security pensioners. Retirees in the pension categories, anticipated and partially anticipated, represented 2.1%.

The total ratio between the average number of retirees from state social security and that of employees was 9 to 10. This ratio shows significant variations in the territorial profile, from just 5 retirees to 10 employees in Bucharest, to 16 retirees to 10 employees in Teleorman County, 15-10 in Giurgiu and Vaslui Counties, and 14-10 in Botosani and Calarasi Counties.

The average state social insurance pension varied with significant discrepancies in the territorial profile, the difference between the minimum and maximum value was 736 lei (1098 lei in Botoṣani county, 1105 lei in Giurgiu county, 1122 lei in county of Vrancea compared to 1834 lei in Hunedoara county, 1743 lei in Bucharest and 1639 lei in Brasov county).

The total number of beneficiaries of the provisions of GEO 2 No. 6/2009 regarding the establishment of the guaranteed minimum social pension (currently – social allowance), in the second quarter of 2020, was 961.4 thousand people.
