Here is the excerpt from the BBC interview that generated so many comments.
Stephen Sackur (BBC): Let me stop you for a minute. Because European citizens will be interested in knowing how you are going to do your job? It is well known that he has a reputation in Romania for acting extreme in the methods used to investigate cases, covertly involving the intelligence services, in order to seek out compromising information on some of the suspects he is pursuing. The Romanian Constitutional Court has questioned this method. Sorry?
Laura Kovesi: It is not about methods, but about working arrangements based on legislation. I received information from the secret services and used it to open the files. Our investigations were carried out by prosecutors and police and the secret services did not work on these cases. (…)
I will not relate to the aspect of the decisions of the Constitutional Court, because others have already done so. But I will refer to the collaboration of the prosecutors with the SRI agents from the time of the Coldea-Kovesi Binomial. Denied by the former head of DNA. It is a lie like the house, told with the unconcern of the ordinary to lie. I can make the proof simpler by repeating what I wrote in 2017 in “To the series We are the State! “ to demonstrate the audacity of Laura Codruța Kovesi!
I will only use the official SRI documents, submitted to Parliament for approval. I start with a quote from Romanian Intelligence Service Activity Report 2013:
“The main cooperation activities were carried out in relation to the Public Ministry, MIA, SIE, MApN, SPP and the Ministry of Justice. The institutional binomial Public Ministry-SRI it also operated in 2013 in optimal parameters, a fact reflected in the dynamics of the results both from the perspective of knowing, preventing and combating threats to national security, as well as from the point of view of criminal investigation ”.
So we have the SRI-DNA Binomial. Officially recognized by the SRI of Maior and Coldea in a report presented to Parliament. But if we go back further, from 2008, in another official SRI report it was written in black and white:
„The contribution of the Service to fulfill the responsibilities of the criminal investigation and investigation bodies was materialized in:
– Make available to the Public Ministry bodies some raw data and information that were the basis for the notifications / information from the SRI; – transmission – upon request – to the criminal investigation bodies of some data and information about the persons involved in criminal activities;
– resolve, at the request of the judicial bodies, requests for declassification of some documents / information;
– participation, within the joint operational teams constituted with the prosecutors, in joint analyzes with the prosecutors;
– make available the results of scientific knowledge and experience;
– resolve the requests for transmission to the judicial bodies of some data, information and documents related to the former and current personnel of the Romanian Intelligence Service, involved in criminal cases ”.
Whoops! Joint teams of prosecutors and SRI officials were analyzing the cases. Well, didn’t the Honorable Miss Kovesi say that prosecutors only get information? It is clear, SRI is lying, Laura Codruța Kovesi is telling the truth!
Let’s go back to 2013 SRI Report, to read the accomplishments that the George Maior – Florian Coldea team was proud of:
Chapter 2.3 2.3.
Information and notification to the criminal investigation and prosecution bodies (…)
An important coordinate of cooperation with criminal investigation bodies was represented by the transmission of data, information and documents requested by them, for the needs of the criminal investigation, as well as the resolution of some requests. In this context, the diversification of the scope of activities in which SRI lawyers participate is also relevant, in the sense that joint analyzes are not limited to matters of material law (investigating the collection of criminal elements), but rather they have been extended to procedural matters. “
If we read with our own eyes and the new English speaker does not translate for us, the prosecutors, together with SRI officials, analyzed criminal procedural issues. They established legal frameworks and investigation strategies. That is, something completely different from what Laura Codruța Kovesi told the renowned BBC journalist live.
Why does LCK lie so carelessly? Because maybe. Just as you could in Romania, you can also do it in Brussels. Because no one is going to break the thread in four.
For those interested, I summarize the article from 2017, here: How the SRI-DNA binomial appeared. Why were Maior and Coldea nervous about Morar and preferred Kovesi?
