“Today, I ordered by Order of the Minister of the Interior No. 1842 of September 8 the establishment, within the Romanian Police, of the School Safety Directorate,” announced Vela.

Vela said that the School Safety Police will be made up of 270 police officers.

“The School Safety Police will have a central subordination, and its object of activity is strictly related to ensuring the protection and safety of students and teachers. The new structure will prevent and combat school violence, with emphasis on the phenomenon of bullying and acts of violence between students within the school, as well as in its surroundings At the same time, it will monitor security measures, analyze criminal phenomena in each school, and identify the risks and specific problems of each educational unit.”, Explained the Minister of the Interior.

According to Vela, this structure will coordinate all actions to combat crime and will have the presence of law enforcement officers, traffic police, gendarmes and the Local Police for the safe operation of schools.

The structure will cooperate with schools and local authorities to combat the “criminogenic phenomenon in schools” and will work together with other MIA structures to combat juvenile delinquency, organized crime, human trafficking and drug trafficking.
