The economist Iancu Guda draws attention to the myth that if you have a house you are also rich.

Economist Iancu Guda told Digi24 that the latest Eurostat figures confirm that 96% of Romanians live in a family home, the highest level in the EU, where the average is 70%. The fewest owners are found in Switzerland: 43%, but also in Germany (52%) and Austria (55%). “These are the countries with the highest standard of living in Europe, an apparent paradox.” The economist highlighted, pointing out that we are the worst in terms of quality of housing.

“Half of the Romanian population lives in overcrowded areas, the highest level in the EU,” the economist continued, adding that in Romania “the idea of becoming a homeowner has become an obsession.”

“Owning multiple homes is wrongly associated with a sense of wealth and security or financial independence. False! Financial independence is when you can live a long time from the money your money produces, that is, how many months of family expenses you can cover with the return on your investments ”. Iancu Guda drew attention. He thinks I came here because of the communist mentality and the lack of financial education in the schools.

Iancu Guda also pointed out that when we go to get a loan, we ask ourselves the wrong question: “What is the maximum loan that I qualify for?” He says the right question is, “How many houses can I afford?”
