The German group Daimler announces that it has increased the production of gearboxes at Sebeș, which has led to the incorporation of another exchange. Thus, 145 new jobs were created.
Due to high demand, starting in August this year, Star Assembly has increased the production capacity of the 8G-DCT transmission, according to the company quoted by ZF.
The announcement comes just weeks after both Dacia and Ford increased car and engine production, Mediafax writes.
Star Assembly, the local division of the Daimler Group that produces automatic transmissions, had a turnover of 1.52 billion euros last year, 2.2% less than the previous year, according to the Ministry of Finance.
The Daimler subsidiary in Romania officially started production of the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission in February 2019 after an investment of € 250 million. This is in addition to the € 300 million started in 2013 at Sebeş, when the nine-speed automatic transmission was put into production. To integrate the new gearbox into its transmission portfolio, Daimler has built two new production halls in Sebeş, with an area of approximately 54,000 square meters. Star Assembly and Star Transmission, Daimler’s subsidiaries in Sebeş and Cugir, are key pillars in Mercedes-Benz Cars’ global powertrain production network and currently employ more than 3,000 employees.
