Russia is trying to discredit the presidential elections of November 3 in the United States and especially the vote by mail, suspects the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in an internal note revealed this Thursday by several American media.

“Russia is likely to further intensify criticism against voting by mail, with the aim of losing confidence in the electoral process,” DHS intelligence officials wrote in their note.

They believe that Russian efforts in this regard began at least in March 2020, through state media and social media, and accelerated with the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, leading to many Americans this year. they are in favor of voting for the presidency.

US President Donald Trump has also been warning for weeks that there is no concrete evidence of the risk of fraud in the massive use of vote by mail.

Congressman: Russia echoes Trump’s false statements

Democratic Congressman Adam Schiff, head of the House Intelligence Committee, said in a statement that Russia was “echoing” the “false and misleading statements” of the Republican president.

On the other hand, several Democratic senators on Thursday asked the Treasury Department to “immediately” sanction any Russian individual or organization that interferes in the US elections.

According to them, the US intelligence services have information that shows that Russia is trying to damage the campaign of Democrat Joe Biden and favor that of Donald Trump, as it did in 2016.
