The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Spain since the start of the pandemic amounts to 462,858, the highest among EU countries.

The number of infections is high, admitted this Monday the chief epidemiologist of the Spanish Ministry of Health, Fernando Simón, who, however, attributes these figures to the large number of tests carried out.

He also mentioned that about half of the detected cases are asymptomatic and about 55% of all new infections are in people under 40 years of age.
