Romania has entered a downward slope in terms of infection with the new virus. Statistics from the past few days, compared to tests performed, show that the number of illnesses has decreased.
However, says the Minister of Health, we must be cautious, so as not to wake up, with an explosion of cases.
That is why more than 200 hospitals remain closed if they do not make separate circuits for patients without COVID. The other patients can be seen in county hospitals, says Nelu Tătaru.
So far, more than 16,000 cases of COVID have been registered in Romania 19.
According to statistics, in the last week, with the exception of 2 days, May 9 and 13, the number of new cases has decreased. As testing capacity increased over the same period and, with the exception of weekends, more and more tests were processed, it can be seen that Romania has entered a downward slope of COVID-19 diseases. But, says the Minister of Health, we must be cautious.
Nelu Tătaru, Minister of Health: ” With relaxation, we have that period of 14 days recommended by the WHO in which we do the evaluation and then we can manage the number of cases and be able to evaluate if we are still descending or if we have unforeseen events, if we look at some European countries we see that the number of cases increased when they relaxed. ”
Currently, 7,025 patients are hospitalized in the 225 hospitals where patients infected with the new virus can be treated. Even if there are fewer than 10 patients in some, the Minister of Health says that for the moment they will all continue to be COVID support units. However, depending on the number of cases, they may also receive chronic patients on separate circuits.
Nelu Tătaru, Minister of Health: ‘“Decreasing the number of cases in the summer, providing circuits can also serve to treat patients who do not have COVID in those hospitals, we adapt to the addressability, the possibility of making those circuits and the staff treat COVID and not COVID.”
On the other hand, there are situations where COVID hospitals are full and newly confirmed or suspected patients experience absurd situations. At the Botosani County Hospital, for example, a 71-year-old man diagnosed with pneumonia and suspected of coronavirus had to wait 16 hours to be hospitalized.
Gheorghe Stănescu, patient: ” Since yesterday at 19:00 and until now I have been walking as if I were stopped. He keeps telling me: wait! I spent a whole night patrolling this concrete. ”
Hospital officials say they have had many COVID suspects in recent days, and this has led to overcrowding of the medical unit. Two other hospitals in the county had to be prepared to receive these patients, but safety circuits have not yet been established in any of them. The health minister has called for an investigation into the case.
On the other hand, an analysis of the National Institute of Public Health shows that almost 40% of illnesses were registered in 4 counties: Neamţ, Suceava, Bacău and Galaţi, but also in the Capital.
The total number of deaths exceeded a thousand, and 38% of them were in Galati, Sibiu, Suceava, Bucharest and Mures.
Most of those killed by COVID-19 were over the age of 60 and had other conditions.
