Cătălin Hîldan passed away on October 5, 2000 during a friendly match played by Dinamo in Oltenița. The “Sole Captain” died on the field, and that moment definitely marked all the breath of Romanian football and, implicitly, that of the “dogs”. Since then, October 5 has been a very sad day for Dinamo players.
After the death of Cătălin Hîldan on October 5, 2000, the Dinamo club retired the jersey number 11. Hîldan played his entire career for Dinamo, except for the 1995-1996 season, when he was loaned to Oţelul Târgovişte. He played eight games and scored a goal for the Romanian team.
