Twelve people, including the head of the Brasov Office of Special Operations, were detained after hospital searches on Thursday. Prosecutors and anti-corruption agents searched the offices of some officials responsible for purchasing medical and protective equipment.

Those affected are suspected of favoring certain companies to provide the necessary equipment to doctors.

On Thursday, prosecutors from ADN – Braşov Territorial Service carried out house searches at 22 locations located in Braşov, Harghita and Iaşi counties, of which four are public institutions, the rest represent the homes of some people and the headquarters of some companies.

The searches were carried out in three COVID hospitals: the Brasov Clinical Neurology and Psychiatry Hospital, the Odorhei Municipal Hospital, the Infectious Diseases Hospital, but also at the headquarters of the Office of Special Operations in Brasov.

According to DNA, several people in the management of some hospitals in Brasov and Harghita counties allegedly received a bribe of up to 89,000 euros for the fraudulent award of contracts for the purchase of overvalued medical equipment and products.

The anti-corruption prosecutors of the Brasov Territorial Service are carrying out criminal investigations in rem (against the facts) in relation to the alleged commission, by various officials, of the following crimes: bribery, bribery, influence peddling, influence buying , abuse of power with undue benefits and other crimes assimilated to corruption.
