Rolling Stones drops long-lost song ‘Scarlet’ with Jimmy Page: Stream it now

It’s not every day you get a new old song from the Rolling Stones. Today is that day.

The Stones unearthed “Scarlet”, featuring Led Zeppelin guitar hero Jimmy Page and the late bass genius Rick Grech (Traffic, Blind Faith, Family) and recorded in October 1974.

A “holy grail” release from the golden age of rock veterans, “Scarlet” comes out of the vault for the multi-format luxury reissue of Goat head soup, due to the fall on September 4 through Universal Music Group.

“I remember I first put this with Jimmy and Keith in Ronnie’s basement studio,” says Mick Jagger in a statement. “It was a great session.”

It’s a free-spirited blues-rock number with layered guitars and hooks galore.

In it, Jagger sings: “Scarlet, why are you carrying my heart, on your sleeve / Where is it not supposed to be / Scarlet, why are you breaking my heart, all to pieces, it’s not how it’s supposed to be / Scarlet Why do you keep my heart for yourself? It’s not how it’s supposed to be.

The relaunched special packages will feature 10 additional tracks, including the unreleased track “All The Rage” and the recently released “Criss Cross”.

Keith Richards of the Stones has his own memories of how “Scarlet” took shape and how “we entered the end of a Zeppelin session”. They were leaving, and we booked the next one and I think Jimmy decided to stay. “

“Scarlet” was a strange accident. “We weren’t really cutting it like a track,” says Richards enthusiastically in a statement, “it was basically for a demo, a demo, you know, just to feel it, but it worked out well, with a line like that, you know, it’s better us to use it. ”
