Running a PlayStation website can often skew our perspective when it comes to the overall gaming industry. But from where we’re sitting, it seems like there’s already a boost for the PlayStation 5, something the Xbox Series X doesn’t have outside of hardcore circles. And new research, as reported by MCV, provides some statistical backing for this theory.
A “wide-ranging” survey by pop culture agency Experience12 suggests that Sony’s next console is winning the next-generation popularity battle at some distance. More than 3,000 people were questioned during MCM Comic Con online events in late June, and 84 percent of participants said they were more excited about the PS5 on the Xbox Series X.
The data is not based on massive sample size, but still an interesting read, and is perhaps a microcosm of the larger image. Arguably more surprising that only 37 percent of people said they plan to purchase a next-gen console at launch later this year.
It’s also worth noting that the majority of these participants said that PS4 is their preferred platform of the current generation. 59 percent trust Sony’s system, while only 16 percent chose Xbox One, 14 percent said PC, and 8 percent pointed to Nintendo Switch. It seems that many of these people will stay with PlayStation.
Where would you have ended up in this survey? Do you feel like PS5 is already outperforming Xbox Series X? Give us some info in the comment section below.
