Tensions rose in Providence, RI, late Tuesday night, according to reports of a police cruiser attacking a moped rider.
At least 19 rioters were arrested as hundreds of people took to the streets against local law enforcement. Firecrackers were exploded in the overnight demonstration and objects, including glass bottles and rocks, were thrown at police. At least one officer was injured.
“Tonight, the men and women of the Providence Police Department showed great professionalism while witnessing their city, despite being attacked again by reckless protesters,” Providence Police wrote on Twitter. “Our department is second to none and will face a contentious issue as we always do.”

The unrest was provoked by a video, which was widely shared on social media, showing an incident on Sunday in which a police cruiser went towards the moped of Zamal Gonsalves, a member of the local biker community at 24 – sent it. Ground.
