Police: Arkansas soldier kills man who stabbed officer

Arkansas State Police say a man suspected of stealing a taxi was shot dead by a soldier after he stabbed and wounded another law enforcement officer in Little Rock.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Arkansas State Police said Sunday that a man suspected of stealing a taxi was shot dead by a soldier after stabbing another law enforcement officer in Little Rock.

Aloysius Keaton, 58, of Little Rock, died Saturday night in a hospital where he was taken after the shooting, according to a police statement.

The names of the soldier who shot Keaton and the Arkansas Highway Patrol officer who was stabbed were not released.

According to police, Keaton crashed the stolen taxi and rushed out of the vehicle around 7 p.m. Saturday as he drove off Interstate 30 onto a city street. Police say they later stabbed the Highway Patrol officer who tried to arrest him.

Keaton fled the scene, but the police found him nearby, according to the police statement.

The man was approaching the soldier with a weapon, according to police, when the soldier first attempted to use a stun gun on him. The police statement says the soldier shot the man when the electric pistol did not stop him.

State police said the Highway Patrol officer was treated and released from a hospital. The soldier, who is now on paid leave, was not injured.
