An unfair meeting was declared before the meeting was considered a riot. Tear gas is said to have been launched after the fire started, not earlier.

In a tweet, Portland Police wrote: ‘Criminal activity is continuing. This event is now a RIOT.

‘All persons must surrender to the SUID. If you do not adhere to this direction, you may be subject to agents, arrest, and / or crowd control agents, including, but not limited to, tear gas and impulse weapons. ‘

The department later tweeted: ‘Stop attacking officers.’

Protesters had marched to the area from a park, singing several things, including ‘Jacob Blake,’ which Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers identified as the man who was shot by a Kenosha police officer on Sunday. Wisconsin authorities had not confirmed the person’s name.

Violent demonstrations have gripped Portland for months, following the assassination of George Floyd in Minneapolis police.

Early Sunday, police forced protesters away from a law enforcement building as efforts to stop the protesters from gathering at the building apparently fell apart.

The protesters apparently had plans Saturday night to march from a park to the Penumbra Kelly public safety building, news reports reported.

However, a distance between marchers and officers took place on a bridge along the road – and the protesters returned.

Protesters seem to be returning to the park, and then taking cars to the building.

Police initially declared an illegal gathering, saying items were thrown at officers, green lasers were pointed at officers and a support plane and paintball guns were fired.

The meeting was later declared adjourned. Officers were hit with rocks, bottles and other objects, police said.

Numerous officers report that people with some sort of ‘press’ identification threw their stones at them, authorities said.

The unrest followed rival protests Saturday afternoon. Federal authorities forced protesters away from a plaza near a federal building because demonstrations by right-wing and left-wing protesters turned violent.
