Phil Spencer says Xbox still has to work “to rebuild trust with Japanese creators”

While more and more Japanese games have been brought to Xbox platforms in recent years, Phil Spencer, speaking with JeuxVideo.com, executive vice president of games at Microsoft Phil Spencer, acknowledges that there is still work to be done. In a video interview, Spencer comments that he is happy with the way the team has been displaying Japanese games during E3 shows, but that “we know we will have to work to rebuild trust with Japanese creators.”

“I am proud of what we are going to show on the 23rd, I like our roadmap of working directly with Japanese creators to build great Xbox games, you will hear more about that in the future,” says Spencer. “We know that it is a very important thing to our strategy to make sure that the amazing creators in Japan feel that Xbox is a platform where they can be successful.”

With major Japanese developer and publisher games like Phantasy Star Online 2, Elden Ring, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Devil May Cry 5 revealed during Xbox E3 shows, Japanese support on Xbox certainly exists. Spencer previously alluded to wanting a Japanese team as part of Xbox Game Studios and recently reiterated that he feels backed by Microsoft to acquire new studios if they find teams that fit.

We will have to wait and see what is in the store on July 23. The Xbox Games Showcase will last about an hour and is fully focused on gaming.
