Observations from day 1 of training camp

2. A big day for Jarvis Landry

Less than an hour before practice, WR Jarvis Landry was coy because he just discussed how active he would be on the field.

Six months away from hip surgery, Landry praised the ‘great plan’ that would get him back to where he could exercise normally. He showed that his work during team drills could be light in the early go-on.

About an hour into practice, Landry stepped into a long touchdown pass from Baker Mayfield.

“He looked good,” Stefanski said. “I’ve been able to see him the last few weeks over the course of the week. He’s doing a fun job. He’s not afraid to work. I enjoy watching him on the practice field. I enjoy seeing him in “He’s making great progress.”

Stefanski said there was nothing outside of Landry’s workload on Friday. That was all part of the plan.

“I think there’s a rhythm to how we want to roll him out and make sure he gets the amount of work he needs,” Stefanski said. “That’s where I will expose our medical experts in that area.”

The Browns’ offensive line featured two rookies in prominent positions. First round picks Jedrick Wills jr. On right-wing approach – which the Browns have been expecting for months – while fifth-round pick Nick Harris was the centerpiece – a new development in the wake of JC Tretter’s recent knee procedure.

Stefanski did not provide a schedule for the return of Tretter, but stressed that the upcoming stretch would be valuable for Harris, who the Browns believe fits well into their offensive schedule.

Stefanski said he liked what he saw coming from both rookies.

“I think (Wills) is a lot of young players at this point,” Stefanski said. “There’s a lot of work to be done, both mentally and physically. The good news is that we have (offensive line) Coach (Bill) Callahan on the case. They spend a lot of time together and they will continue to do so, but he is exactly where we want him to be.

“With all these young guys talking about Nick, but really for everyone, this is a process and there will be mistakes, and we just have to identify and correct them. That’s part of the training camp’s rhythm. “That’s friendly from where we are right now. Don’t expect it to be perfect. We just have to make sure we take every rep and we coach them.”

– Rookie WR Donovan Peoples-Jones felt a lot of point gains during Friday practice. He played with JoJo Natson, who has been the Rams’ point and kick-returner for the past two seasons.

– One of the bigger plays of the exercise came near the end, when Case Keenum hung up a touchdown pass to KhaDarel Hodge in the center of the field.

– Myles Garrett (hamstring) did not practice. Stefanski said he expects Garrett to be okay.

– The Browns are gone Saturday. They will be back in action Sunday for another OTA-style practice in helmets and shorts before donning the pads next week.
