Zlatan Ibrahimović (39) has been selected for the Swedish national team for the first time in almost five years.

– God is back, writes Zlatan himself on his Instagram with a photo of himself with the Sweden shirt.

The Swedish superstar, who currently plays in Italian Serie A with AC Milan, gave up 116 internationals and 62 goals almost five years ago during the 2016 European Championship in France.

It was under Erik Hamrén. He has not played with current national team coach Janne Andersson.

– First of all, he is a very good soccer player, the best we have had in Sweden. Of course, it’s a lot of fun for me to come back. In addition to what he can bring to the field, he has incredible experience that he can bring with him to other players on the team, says Andersson at the Swedish Football Association press conference.

In November, Zlatan began hinting at a possible comeback. He has had meetings with the management of the national team in Milan.

– Since then we have traveled again and we have known him. He’s ready for a retreat, and I made that decision yesterday (Monday).

Andersson says he will keep Andreas Granqvist as captain, although he is not likely to play matches in the next collection.

Zlatan is now in the squad that will face Georgia, Kosovo and Estonia in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, which start next week.

The 39-year-old is slightly injured and faced the Europa League quarter-finals against Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s Manchester United last Thursday, and this weekend’s league game against Napoli. When he returns to play for Sweden this spring, he will be the oldest player to play an international game there.

Sweden will play the European Championship this summer in groups with Spain, Poland and Slovakia.

– A European Championship this summer is very relevant as long as it is healthy, said the coach of the national team.
