A video with false accusations about an election official in Georgia has had dire consequences, according to the state general election statements.

Public interest in what happens inside the counting rooms is very high in this year’s presidential elections in the United States, after, among others, President Donald Trump has repeatedly and without documentation claimed that there is electoral fraud.

So it is now: Significant increase for Biden in Georgia

This has had dramatic consequences for an election official in Georgia, states Election General Richard Barron.

During a news conference from Fulton County on Friday, Barron said a viral video on social media has led to one of his election officials now being covered.

– According to the video, the official is accused of casting a vote while he was responsible for one of the five voice cutting machines. These machines are used to cut the envelopes so that the inside of the envelope can be separated. It was suggested that the official cast one of these votes, Barron says.

– The answer is no, he adds.

Georgia’s tip state has almost finished counting votes as of Saturday night, and with just a few thousand votes left to count, Trump has lost 4,289 votes.

The machines shown in the video of the voting station are only used to separate the inner envelopes from the envelopes they are in. The actual vote registration is not done here, but in the next phase.

The episode was investigated by the Georgia electoral leadership, which quickly concluded that nothing was wrong.

– These ballots are 8.5 times 19 inches long. At no time could it be seen that he took something out of the envelope. What was scrapped were instructions in a small note. Voters often attach instructions when filing ballots, Barron said.

After the video gained momentum on social media, information about the election official’s name, residential address, car, and registration number were also shared.

– He is currently under cover, because he has received threats. He has had to close all social networks. All of your personal information was made public. I think it’s embarrassing. He just pulled out a list of instructions that was in one of the envelopes, Barron says.

The official now lives with friends because he does not risk living at home because of threats, according to the electoral general.

– You had to run away from your own home. You are afraid to drive your own car as the registration number has been posted. He was one of our quickest and most skilled officials, says Barron.
