KOM24 reports that the leak on Norwegian profiles constitutes a small part of the information to around 500 million Facebook users that has been shared on a hacker forum.

Facebook users in 106 countries are affected.

Business Insider was the first to report the incident.

The leaked information includes phone numbers, full name, email address, and biographical information.

The information has been posted on a hacking forum for free. Which can make it easily accessible to anyone with rudimentary computer skills.

Zuckerberg strike

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is among the users whose personal information was leaked online.

As, among other things, their marriage information, date of birth, phone number and Facebook user ID have been published, writes The Sun.

Can be abused

Hackers are said to have obtained the information by exploiting a security hole that was already sealed in 2019. At that time, the phone numbers of a large number of Facebook users were also shared online.

Although it is not about passwords or other private information, IT experts fear that the information could be used for fraud and to trick users into revealing confidential information in so-called phishing attacks.

Technology company Motherboard asks Facebook users to be aware in the future as phone numbers may be attempted to be misused, Business Insider writes.

Facebook has so far not commented on the incident.
