A year after Wuhan discovered the corona virus, a brewery in the Chinese city of Wuhan is full of people. There is also Zhang Qiong, who is celebrating her 29th birthday with friends.

“After experiencing the first pandemic wave in Wuhan, it feels a bit like I have a new life,” he told Reuters.

Seven months after the city of Wuhan, with a million inhabitants, was practically sealed hermetically, the city is full of people. According to a Reuters correspondent, the city’s streets and clubs are full of young people who “seem to have to make up for the time lost during the shutdown.”

The city and its eleven million inhabitants have reason to celebrate: they have not had a single local case of contagion since May 10, after suffering one of the most severe closures in the world.

– While the epidemic devastated the worst, Wuhan was truly a dead city. Now everyone goes out to eat and have fun. I don’t think there were that many people before the pandemic, says Wang Xinghao, a member of the pop-rock band Mad Rat.

Pandemic Beer and Museum

Wuhan also opened a museum exhibition on the “city’s triumph over the eruption.” A brewery has also brewed its own pandemic beer that has been named Wuhan, stay strong. It is decorated with text and images that show what life was like in Wuhan during the long shutdown, writes Business Insider.

– We wanted to find a way for people to know our history, says Wung Fan, owner of the brewery that has made Wuhan beer.

Many businesses and restaurants are still struggling financially after the violent shutdown, but now they are hopeful.

For a year, no one knew what covid-19 was. Now China is practically crown-free. Tight measures and borders closed since March are likely many of the reasons why most Chinese are able to lead relatively normal lives, while most people are on standby.

“I just want to enjoy the time, because you never know where it will end,” birthday boy Zhang told Reuters.
