It is not a given that glamorous models become gardeners, but for Helene Rask it was a liberating and natural choice.

In 2020, a record number of people have been laid off and much of the business community is facing a major restructuring in which many employees have to find new career paths. In this series of articles, Nettavisen focuses on profiled people who may find something completely different to do.

– It was obvious to me that the era as a glamor model reached a saturation point at some point. In retrospect, I stayed in the industry much longer than I had thought. One took the other and many exciting opportunities opened up.

– There is less attention to appearance and superficiality. It felt liberating, says Helene Rask Holløkken, or Helene Rask, which was her model name. She became really famous in 2002 on the television show “Fear Factor” on TV3. Here she dramatically drowned during the recording.

In the early 2000s, the 40-year-old was one of the first known glamor models in the country, and she also managed to land several record releases. But after her modeling career, Rask Holløkken has chosen a completely different career, trained as a gardener and studied coaching and management. In the spring he will start studying agronomy.

Coincidence

– I entered the world of models when I was 18 years old. After eight years, many “photographers”, assignments, traveling both at home and abroad and running their own modeling agency, it was time to take another step, he says.

The leap from glamor model to gardener was minor for those who know her well. Rask Holløkken grew up the third of eight siblings on a farm in Nesodden.

– Yes, growing up on a farm, it was probably not surprising to those who know me well that the choice fell on the gardening profession when looking for new challenges. I have a great interest in the garden and the outdoor environment. Combined with a passion for everything that sprouts and grows, last year he became the entrepreneurial spirit of his own landscaping company.

So now Rask Holløkken offers through Helenehagefrøken.no what she describes as “unique houses and garden furniture, as well as guidance, advice and suggestions for decorating and designing patios.” She married Geir Holløkken this summer and together they have a son who will soon be three years old.

Massage chairs

– Also, my husband and I run Casada.no, which sells massage chairs for the private and corporate market. We were recently sponsored by Therese Johaug, who will be at the helm of our products next season, says a proud entrepreneur.

– Should you have started your current career earlier?

– I think a bit that things happen when they should. He needed those years to mature and look back on a rich and varied life, Rask Holløkken responds.

Rask Holløkken says that he experienced a lot of prejudice in the beginning, but has never focused so much on it.

– I think most of the people I’ve met and worked with have emphasized more who I am than what I pretended to be in a period of my life, she says about her past.

founder

The entrepreneur of the series has always had an entrepreneur in his stomach. Among other things, she ran the Rask Models event agency with the recruitment of girls for modeling assignments both at home and abroad. The documentary “Glamor Girls” aired on TVNorge in 2009 and portrayed the daily life of Helene Rask and seven glamor models at the agency.

– I was also able to get a taste of the artist’s life with three singles and an album, and I recorded music videos for my own music in Norway, Germany and Egypt.

– I even had a “hit” in Poland and performed for 130,000 people on live television, says Rask Holløkken. She ended her modeling career with the TV series-Norge.

– Have you ever had doubts about career change?

– I think that doubts about elections come and go throughout life. In this way, it provides space for self-evaluation from time to time. At the same time, it is good that life can accommodate many different experiences, good and bad.

Brave

– What do you miss most and least about your old career?

– I was probably a little braver when I was younger and I gave myself to things more easily than now. With age and experience also comes fear and fear of failure.

– I don’t miss the young years so much, but a little courage and “guts” will remind me to carry myself further into my forties, says the 40-year-old freshly baked.

She answers “absolutely” to the question of whether what she is doing now is something she wants to do for the rest of her career.

– I still want to develop Miss Helenehagefrøken, garden design and our main company Casada Norway. And recently my husband and I took over the family farm in Nesodden where I grew up. We are part-time farmers here and we raise wild sheep.

Renovate the barn

Rask Holløkken says that he is currently in the middle of renovating the barn and looks forward to many exciting projects on the farm in the future.

– What advice do you have for others who are also going to change pastures in adulthood?

– If you want, you are allowed! The good thing about the time we live in is that we can bet again if what we choose first as young people feels bad.

– You will experience and live a richer life if you dare to make changes, big and small. Follow the heart, and life is now, encourage the entrepreneur.
