WILMINGTON / WASHINGTON, DC (VG)
“Hope to talk to you again tomorrow,” he said from the stage in Wilmington in Delaware just before 5 o’clock on Saturday morning Norwegian time.
There was uncertainty beforehand as to whether Joe Biden would give his planned speech before the election result was clear, but the Democratic presidential candidate finally took the stage, just before 11 p.m. Friday night local time.
– We can’t declare victory yet, but the numbers tell us it’s clear. We will win this, he said, adding that he is confident of winning the most conducive states of Arizona, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Nevada, he said.
So it is now: Biden is increasing his leadership in Pennsylvania
The vote count in the United States is still ongoing, and Biden has increased his leadership in the state of Pennsylvania. 20 voters are at stake here, and if you win them, you will also win the election.
WAITING FOR BIDEN: Christopher Byron and Zimako Chuks keep warm outside the cordoned off area where Joe Biden will take the stage on Saturday night.
Several hours before Biden took the stage, a large crowd had gathered outside the cordoned off area and the atmosphere in the venue was enthusiastic.
Only a small group of pre-invited guests were allowed into the area to watch the speech, while the rest had to follow from the “free pile” outside.
Promises crown measures
Although Biden did not declare victory, he was clear about why he thinks he wants to win:
– 24 hours ago we were behind in Georgia, but now we lead. We will win that state. 24 hours ago we were behind in Pennsylvania, but now we are leading. We will win this state, Biden said.

He also revealed that he and his vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris are already preparing to take over the White House.
– While we wait for the results, we are not waiting to get the job done, he said, pointing to the great challenge the United States faces when it comes to taking control of the corona pandemic.
In recent days, more than 100,000 new cases of infection have been registered daily in the country. While Biden was on the podium, word came in that Trump’s chief of staff, Mark Meadows, had been diagnosed with the coronavirus.
A few hours before Biden takes the stage, a group of Trump supporters also showed up to demonstrate in Wilmington, and there were many fights between the two groups:
– Like a cool breeze
VG commentator Hanne Skartveit, who was in Wilington to hear Biden’s speech, says she thinks it was prudent of him not to declare victory now.
– Americans now have time to digest and absorb the result over time. It would be very wrong for him to declare victory when the last few days have been about counting all the votes, he says.
Georgia Election Officials Coverage: – You have received threats
Dan Rather, former editor of CBS Evening News, wrote on Twitter that Biden’s speech was “like a cool breeze”:
– Tonight’s speech was addressed to the entire nation. It was like a cool breeze on a humid day. We elect presidents of the United States of America. All together. At least that’s how it should be.
Ask people to be patient
While Biden is currently on his way to flee with victory, current US President Donald Trump has spoken out against the election results multiple times in recent days. He claims, without proof, that there is electoral fraud and that someone is trying to “steal” his victory.
Large demonstrations are taking place outside the polling stations on both sides of the political spectrum, and Biden said from the rostrum in Wilmington that people should trust democracy.

– I know it can take a long time to follow these counts. It may be surprising to see, but the numbers represent voters and should be heard, he said, promising voters that their votes will be counted.
Biden also promised that he will try to be a unifying president of a United States that this year has been marked by strong protests.
– We can be political opponents, but not enemies. Let’s leave the mind and demonization behind.
Biden’s supporters, who VG gathered in Washington DC on Friday, have already started celebrating, even though the election has yet to be fully decided:
Trump: warned against declaring victory
Before Biden’s speech, Trump wrote on Twitter that the opponent should not make unwarranted claims to the presidency.
– I could have done that too, write more, adding that the fight in the judicial system is just underway.
Trump has previously said that he believes he is the rightful winner of the election and declared victory on election night in several states before the vote count was complete.
In a speech on Friday night, he repeated the allegations of electoral fraud in a speech that drew strong reactions from various quarters.
