The day after US Defense Secretary Mark Esper was fired, the Pentagon announced several changes at the top. The new key figures are described as loyal to the president of the United States, Donald Trump.
He reports to various US outlets, including CNN, Washington Post, and the AP news agency.
The new appointments were announced by the US Department of Defense on Tuesday. It comes after at least three other top officials decided to resign after word broke Monday that Trump fired Defense Minister Mark Esper, writes NBC.

Democrat Adam Smith, who chairs the House Armed Forces Committee, is highly critical of the replacements, noting that they come at a challenging time for the United States.
“It’s hard to overstate how dangerous it is to have high-level replacements in the Defense Department during a transitional period between presidents,” he told the Washington Post.

US President Donald Trump has not acknowledged losing the US presidential election and has not congratulated rival candidate Joe Biden on the victory. Trump and his apparatus have also begun to challenge the election results in court.
These are the new appointments:
- Christopher miller he has been appointed the new acting defense minister. He comes from work as head of the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center and, according to CNN, has been a driving force behind parts of Trump’s Iran policy.
- Kash Patel becomes Miller’s chief of staff. He is a former adviser to Republican Congressman Devin Nunes. He is also known as a friend of Trump and traveled with the president in much of his campaign investigations, the AP writes.
- Anthony Tata he becomes the new Deputy Chief of Defense Policy. He has appeared several times as a commentator on Fox News and has created controversy with various statements about Islam. He is also said to have branded former US President Barack Obama a terrorist, writes the Washington Post. Tata has previously served as an advisor to the fired Esper and will be promoted after James Anderson resigned Tuesday.
- Ezra Cohen-Watnick becomes the new Deputy Chief of Intelligence. His first role in the Trump administration was as an advisor to the controversial former US security adviser Michael Flynn. Get the job after Joseph Kernan left on Tuesday.
