AFTER THE ATTACK: On Monday night, the police were massively present in the capital after several people died and many were seriously injured in the attack.
A 20-year-old alleged Austrian perpetrator was shot and killed by the police on the spot. He was a sympathizer of ISIS, according to Interior Minister Karl Nehammer.
Police are still searching for more perpetrators after the attack that hit Vienna around 8pm on Monday night, where several perpetrators are believed to have started shooting around them in central Vienna.
The perpetrator who was shot and killed by police at the scene on Monday was a 20-year-old Austrian citizen with roots in northern Macedonia, Interior Minister Karl Nehammer said Tuesday morning.
According to Der Standard, the man had previously been sentenced to 22 months in prison for trying to go to Syria to join the Islamic State.
In December of last year, however, he was released on parole.

Many things are still unclear about the attack and the person or persons who carried it out.
Several questions remain unanswered:
- How many perpetrators were there?
- How planned was the attack?
- What was your motive?
Harald Sörös, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry, tells the APA news agency that they assume there are a maximum of four perpetrators. Massive police forces are still working in the Austrian capital to find more people involved in the attack.
The shooting is said to have started near this area. Police believe there are multiple locations for the shooting, but it is currently unclear exactly where:
– The aggressor became radicalized
During the night, the police searched the house of the perpetrator who was shot and killed by the police on Monday night.
According to the minister, the police broke into his house with explosives. Only after this did the information about the motive come, both from Nehammer and the police:
The Vienna police also believe that this is an Islamist-motivated attack.
During the attack, the man had a rifle and “various weapons” according to police. He was also equipped with a bomb belt, which later turned out to be a fake.
During the night, several house searches and investigations have been carried out around the author.
Two more people with ties to the attack have been arrested, Nehammer confirmed to Der Standard on Tuesday, but it is currently unclear what role they have played.
