Prime Minister Erna Solberg believes that we are on our way back to everyday life, although we have not yet completed strict measures.

Published:

– This weekend a year ago, the Holmenkollen ski festival was left without an audience. The first major event to be changed due to the crown.

Thus began Erna Solberg (H) her speech on Sunday to Norway on Sunday evening.

The Prime Minister spoke on the occasion that it has been almost a year since the crown pandemic actually broke out in Norway.

Little did we know that a year later this crisis would not end. And maybe it was good. It has taken longer than we imagine, continues the Prime Minister.

– The infection is on the rise, the British variants are taking over. Therefore, we are not done with the strict measures yet. In front of us there is a peak until we have to cross.

She says there will likely be stricter national measures before we can relax and eventually repeal the measures. Next week, the government is expected to introduce new national measures, after a period of sharp increases in infection in various parts of the country.

– I plan to report to the Storting on Tuesday morning, Solberg told VG when asked when new national measures will be announced after the speech.

– What measures can we expect?

– We haven’t finished evaluating that. One of the most important decisions and evaluations now is the question of how much we can strengthen local measures. Many parts of the country have little infection and it is very demanding for us to have similar measures across the country, Solberg responds.

Solberg emphasizes that the government is still preparing and evaluating measures and therefore cannot elaborate on what we can expect.

Nor does he want to answer whether it is relevant to close schools nationwide.

The R number will drop

Over the weekend, the Norwegian Health Directorate and the NIPH assessed whether national measures are sufficient or whether we need more measures to bring the R number below 1.

FHI has estimated the R number to have been 1.3 since February 8. The R number says something about how many people an infected person transmits. When the R number is 1.3, an infected person will infect an average of 1.3 more, and the total number of infected will continue to increase.

– I have asked the Norwegian Health Directorate and FHI to analyze whether the national measures are sufficient or if we need further measures to get the R number below 1, Høie told VG on Friday.

Promises brighter times

Although Solberg’s immediate future prospects look promising, the Prime Minister promises that better times are ahead, when we can embrace and live a social life.

– We want to go there now. We will be crowded into sporting events, we will be together in the cinema, theater, concerts, we will return to festivals, gatherings, celebrations, russetid, close contact, everyday life and parties, Solberg said, adding:

– But we still have a way to go until we get there.

In addition, it points out that vaccination is ongoing.

– Before the end of March, we will have received almost 1.2 million doses of vaccine. By the end of April, the number may have doubled. And in May and June, there will be even bigger deliveries, says the prime minister, who hopes that all adults will have been offered a vaccine over the summer.
